Everything you need to work with PDFs
PDF is the safest way to share a document without worrying about fonts, layout, or software compatibility on the other end. Whatever you're starting from — a Word document, an Excel spreadsheet, a PowerPoint presentation, or a photo — our PDF Tools turn it into a clean, shareable PDF in seconds, entirely online, with nothing to install.
Convert to and from PDF, automatically
The PDF Converter detects what you upload: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OpenDocument and image files are converted straight to PDF, while uploading a PDF instead lets you choose Word, Excel, PowerPoint or JPG as the output — all from a single page, without picking a separate tool for each direction. Need to combine several files into one? PDF Maker takes any mix of formats, lets you arrange them in the order you want, and can optionally password-protect the result. Going the other way — pulling data out of a PDF instead of creating one — the PDF Extractor lifts out a document's plain text, its embedded images, or the list of fonts it uses.
Sign, edit and secure a document
Need a signature on a document without printing it out? Sign PDF lets you draw, type or upload your signature and place it anywhere on the page. The PDF Editor covers the rest of the everyday edits — watermark, page numbering, rotate, reorder, compress, split and flatten — and you can chain as many of those together on the same file as you need. Once a document is final, Protect PDF adds a password so only people you share it with can open it, and Unlock PDF removes that password again when you have the right to do so — for a file you own or were given permission to unlock.
Multiple ways to get your file in
Every tool accepts a file the same handful of ways: browse and select it from your device, drag and drop it directly onto the page, paste a direct link to a file hosted elsewhere, or import it straight from Dropbox or Google Drive. Whichever route you use, processing happens on our servers, so the result comes out the same regardless of what device or browser you're working from.
Built for one-off tasks, not a subscription
Most people only need a PDF tool occasionally — converting a résumé, signing a lease, splitting a scanned document — which is exactly the gap these tools fill. There's no software to install and no account required for the basics, so you can get the one file you need done and move on.
Picking the right tool for the job
It helps to know which end of the process you're on. If you're starting from an Office file and need a PDF out, the PDF Converter handles that directly. If you already have a PDF and need to change it — add a signature, reorder pages, drop the file size, or add password protection — that's the PDF Editor and its companion tools, not the Converter. And if you're trying to pull content out of an existing PDF rather than change it, the Extractor is built specifically for that, rather than trying to copy-paste text out of a PDF viewer by hand, which often breaks formatting or misses embedded images entirely.
A tip for combining files
When using PDF Maker to merge several documents, upload them in the order you want them to appear — you can still reorder afterward, but starting close to the right order saves a step. If some of the source files are scanned images rather than text-based PDFs, the merge will still work, but keep in mind the resulting file won't have selectable text on those particular pages.
Why PDF stays the default for sharing documents
The whole reason PDF exists is consistency — a file that looks the same on the sender's screen as it does on the receiver's, regardless of what software, operating system or fonts either of them has installed. A Word document can shift its layout depending on the fonts available on the machine opening it; a PDF won't. That reliability is exactly why contracts, résumés, invoices and official forms default to PDF, and it's the same reason these tools exist — to make getting into and out of that format as close to effortless as possible.
